Railway Job Aspirants interested to get in to the post of Assistant Loco Pilot jobs in Indian Railway should qualify 10th class under 10 + 2 system /ITI/Diploma in technical streams. After obtaining necessary educational qualifications, they can get in to the post by clearing the recruitment procedure of Railway Recruitment Board.
Educational Qualifications for Assistant Loco Pilot
Candidate should acquire adequate educational qualifications to apply for the post of ‘Assistant Loco Pilot’. Pass in matriculation under 10 + 2 system is the basic qualification required for the post. Diploma holders from an AICTE approved institution in any of the following subjects are also eligible to apply.

Another option to make oneself eligible for ‘Assistant Loco Pilot’ post is to obtain ITI qualification from an institution approved by SCVT/ NCVT. ITI must be done in any of the following subjects.

Electrician
Heat Engine
Mechanic Radio and T.V
Machinist
Mill Wright /Maintenance Mechanic

Higher degree holders in Automobile Engineering/Electrical Engineering/Electronics Engineering/Mechanical Engineering are also considered for the job. Such candidates can expect better job promotion in long run.
SELECTION PROCESS FOR ASSISTANT LOCO PILOT
The final step to get in to the job is to qualify the selection process of RRB. Selection is usually done through a three stage process.

Age Criteria:An candidate’s age must be between 18 years to 30 years as on 1/1/2011(Age relaxations are applicable as per Govt. rules).
Pay Scale:5200 – 20200 Grade Pay- 1900
Other Allowances depend on various conditions and hence cant be stated uniformly.
*DA on Total Pay above plus the running Allowance
*Transport Allowance
*Running Allowance
*House Rent Allowance(if not provided with quarters
Deductions from salry include 10% of total Pay towards New Pension scheme.
SYLLABUS FOR ASSISTANT LOCO PILOT
Written test comprises of 120 objective model questions which must be answered in 1 and half hours. Exam is meant to evaluate the technical and aptitude skills of the candidate and is based on the following topics.General Awareness
General intelligence
General Science
Reasoning Ability
Numerical Aptitude
Technical Knowledge
Those who successfully clear the written test will be informed about the date for document verification and personal interview. After clearing this level, the medical fitness of the candidate is checked. In this stage the eyesight of the candidate and physical fitness of the candidate is checked. Those who successfully clear these stages can get in to the position of ‘Assistant Loco Pilot’ in Indian Railways.
ALP's next promotion is Sr. ALP followed by LP. After becoming LP one can write also exams for Power Controller, Crew Controller, Loco Foreman (Loco supervisor) . These posts have the added advantage of getting Running Allowance without actually running.
