*Minimum Educational Qualification :Matriculation (Matriculate or 10 th Class in 10+2 examination system) with minimum 50% Marks and having ITI passed Certificate Affiliated to NCVT compulsory in relevant Trade. Candidates appearing at and / or awaiting results of final examination of Matriculation are not eligible.
*Age Limit and Relaxation:The age will be reckoned as on 01.01.2013.
The age of UR Candidates should not be less than 15 Years and not more than 24 Years i.e. the date of birth should be within 01.01.1989 to 01.01. 1998
EXAMINATION FEE:
Crossed IPO of Rs.40/- (Rupees forty) as a processing fee in favour of FA & CAO, E.Rly,Kolkata payable to GPO/Kolkata is to be enclosed with the application form by the UR & OBC Candidates.
MODE OF SELECTION :
a. Engagement of Act Apprentices will be done only on the basis of marks obtained in the Matriculation (Matriculate or 10 th class in 10 + 2 examination system) Examination passed from recognized School/Institution and minimum marks of eligibility shall be kept at 50% in aggregate and having ITI Certificate is compulsory. No extra weightage shall be granted to candidates having higher qualification. Candidates equal to 1.25 times of the number of slots for Act Apprentices shall be called for verification of Original testimonials and their physical fitness. No marks shall be awarded at this stage. A final merit list will be prepared equal to the no. of slots in the descending order of percentage of marks obtained by the Candidates in the Matriculation (Matriculate or 10 th class in 10 + 2 Examination system) Examination separately for Kanchrapara and Sealdah Division.
b. Selected Candidates should be engaged subject to found fit in appropriate Medical Exam. by Railways as applicable for the Kanchrapara Workshop and for the Sealdah Division.

Eastern Railway was formed on 14th April, 1952 by integration of the East Indian Railway consisting of Sealdah, Howrah, Asansol and Danapur Divisions and the entire Bengal – Nagpur Railway.Later, the portion of BNR stretching from Howrah to Visakhapatnam in the South, Howrah to Nagpur in the Central area and upto Katni in the North Central Region were separated from Eastern Railway and formed as “South Eastern Railway” with effect from 1st August 1955.After redistribution and construction of new lines over a period of time, Eastern Railway as on 30th September 2002, stretched over 4245.61 kilometres.On 01-10-2002, three divisions viz. Dhanbad, Mughalsarai and Danapur were separated from Eastern Railway to create new East Central Railway zone with headquarters at Hajipur. Eastern Railway now consists of 2500 Route Kilometres spread over four divisions viz. Sealdah, Howrah, Asansol and Malda out of which 1424 route kilometres are electrified on 25 KV AC traction.
